COINCIDENCES?
Budney struggled to keep his pace. He knew the others were much faster and much better at keeping going than him.
The sun had almost set, and what little shrubbery was left was cutting the suns light into different shapes and sprayed them in all directions.
Budney found it hard to track the three because one, they were good at not leaving to many prints, and two, he had never really tried tracking before. He was relying heavily on what he knew and that was their scents, but even that was difficult to follow.
The sun vanished and Budney naturally slipped into the shadows, only his eyes and slightly visible purple markings gave away where he was. He was very frightened. The darkness around him seemed to be swallowing him with all his fears. He used to like the dark, but in these strange lands with no moon to give him a small amount of light, the shrubs seemed to claw out their sticks for branches at him. He was terrified now. He gave up on his unskilled tracking and instead stood shock horror frozen in the middle of a small patch.
A small breeze passed through and made all the bush rustle in a terrible creaking noise. Budney could feel his teeth chattering. Why hadn't he gone back? he thought to himself, his ears pricked at every twitch.
Budney had thought he heard something and jumped and turned. It was faint and sounded like something running. Budney had a sudden leap in his heart, thinking it may have been one of the three coming back to collect him, but he realised that they had headed south. The approaching noise was coming from the north.
His heart sank even further. Panic overwhelmed him and without knowing it he was soon bolting in any given direction.
He could hear the padding getting closer and closer and change directions when he did. The shrubs gave their slashes of protest as he tried to get away as fast as he could. He was petrified at the thought that it could be one of those horrible things that Mann created. He didn't want to die and didn't want to be chased by a Death Wolve. The more he thought, the more desperate he became which in turn, he became more clumsy, tripping over whatever placed itself in front of him.
The running became louder. He could've sworn he saw something white to his far left where the sound was coming from.
Two loud distinct yells came as a mess of furs landed on the ground. The white fur quickly got up and backed into one of the surrounding bushed.
"My goodness. I am so sorry. I didn't mean t..." But the voice from the white fur quickly cut off as Budney hauled himself up.
"You stay RIGHT there! Don't come any closer!" The voice changed to a harsh and defensive tone.
"But...What?" Budney stumbled forward, his head hurt horribly from the impact.
"I said stay THERE!" the voice hissed. He couldn't figure whether it was male or female because his head was spinning to much to concentrate.
"Who are you?" was that he could manage to struggle out.
"And how is that your business? And what on Earth is a Shadow pup doing all the way down in No-Manns Land? Shouldn't you be squabbling about in Tredwood Forest?" The voice demanded rather than asked.
"Well, I suppose it is none of my business," replied Budney, his fears were slowly going away, " and I'm here with three others." Budney's head stopped spinning and he was able to see who he was talking to now. The Wolvian was white and slim in stature, her green markings suggested that she was a Nature Wolve, and he knew it was a girl for reasons he would not say.
The Nature Wolvian snarled at him, but he could see her looking around with fear.
"Oh," he said, guessing what she was looking for," they're not here now and they're not Shadow Wolves."
"I don't believe you!" She snapped at him.
"No really, they're.. they're," he had to pause for a moment because they had never told him what breed of Wolve they were. "They're the white ones with the blue markings!"
"Ice Wolves?" she said suggestively, but realised she was supposed to be snarling at him so quickly added on, "I still don't believe you!" with a snap.
"No, no please!" He begged as she started creeping towards him, her teeth bared. "There was um... Arssneq! He was one of them!" The name obviously meant nothing to her as she continued to advance forwards.
The night gave the Nature Wolve a dark and mysterious glow about her with her white fur. She sucked in a breath of air and let it out as a Howl. Her markings glowed bright green and her eyes were a vine filled mess. She kept moving forwards, forcing Budney to cower into the shadows.
Budney felt something creeping up his right hind leg and before he knew it, vines were entwining themselves all around his body. Panic struck him hard in the face and he thrashed about, trying to shake them off.
He knew that she didn't recognise Arssneq's name and it probably meant that she would not know the other two's but as a last act of desperation before the vines suffocated him he screamed out, "ICALAVE!"
The vines ceased their climb but still held firmly around him.
It all happened so suddenly he didn't know what to think.
The Nature Wolvian jumped up and down with glee. Her cruelness vanished as quick as a flash and was immediately replaced with a thunder of joy.
"Was it something I said?" Budney asked, utterly confused. Her bubbliness reminded him of all the times that he was happy.
" My name's Genera," she said with a huge grin on her face. He was slightly taken aback at the sudden introduction.
"Uh... Budney. Is this how you always meet people?" He questioned her as he looked down at the vines, but she completely ignored him.
"You know Icalave?" She danced up and down with excitement.
"Yes... Could you please let me go now?" Her bubbliness ceased. She glared at him.
"Why should I? Your a Shadow Wolvian!"
"But I'm not like other Shadow Wolves," he pleaded," I'm different I swear."
"How do I know I can trust you?"
"Icalave did." That seemed to have worked for her.
"Oh okay." Her grin returned. The vines holding Budney were quickly released and he gave a breath of relief.
"So what are you doing here?" Genera asked him.
"I was about to ask the same question," they laughed together, the worry of his fears completely disappeared. "I was travelling with them until about an hour ago when they left me on the wrong side of No-Manns Land boarder. I got scared and I tried to follow they're too fast and better than me." Genera's heart immediately went out to him, despite the fact he was a Shadow Wolve which all Nature Wolves instinctively hated. She could see that he was different and walked up next to him to give him some sympathy.
"Awe... You poor thing. Well we can find them together because I'm looking for them too." She gave the sweetest voice she could. "But we'd better rest for the night or we'll get lost."
"Okay." Budney didn't object in the slightest way. He could smell her beautifully sweet scent which urged him to trust her to death.
They settled down in that very spot and cuddled up to each other for warmth for it was a cold night without the moon. Genera asked him how he ended up travelling with them and they talked until they fell asleep.
Meanwhile further south, Icalave, Arssneq and Rossmend had almost reached the most northern settlement of Mann, only the river stopped them from reaching it now.
